Gichigami

Or Gitche Gumee, no matter to me.

We stopped at Brighton Beach (a.k.a.Kitchi Gammi Park, I just learned), at the north end of Duluth before Highway 61 shoots on up to Two Harbors. This is a favorite spot for your mom. One of my favorite pictures of your uncle Andy as a little one (probably about 18 months old) was taken here. Kids love rocks. And this, a good place for skipping rocks (supply: endless)

A good place for throwing rocks. Into small puddles, yes. This involves about a 1.2 out of 10  on the worry scale for your mom's (might get wet, might get cold)
.
 4.0 on the scale:
Your Dad's got you good grip on you Roman and Zoe is still close, but still.  We found a good spot to sit and still let you guys wander a bit.

The kids who stare at rocks.

Your dad likes this picture. You do have "the look", Zoe.

And the kids who splash and throw and sometimes even want to drink the water. Don't drink the water.

 Don't. Drink. the. Water. Roman!

I did take them down and show them how to put their hand on the rock and wait for the waves to come in. Roman got a little close on this one and got soaked. He didn't care.

 That leaves Zoe.
 You got it, little girl!
My family used to go up to the North Shore fairly often. Usually it was a last minute thing and we'd drive up and find some cabin to stay at. It seems like most of those inexpensive, kind of crappy (but in a nice way, really!) cabins are gone. There seems to be lots of newer condo type stuff up there. Which is fine and all, but I do have some good memories of a couple of places that were right there on the water. My parents would make the campfire and we'd sit out at night with our sweaters on (even in July it was cool at night). Someday, kiddos, someday.

In "Song of Hiawatha" it is Gitche Gumme and it is part of the twins native American heritage. Big water calls. The rest of us Minnesotans also have that big lake call to us.
Beautiful photos. Love following the lives and times of Zoe and Roman.
